Goals and Objectives


At Joey’s Cottage we aim to:

  • Observe and develop each child’s potential through individually designed programs that recognise the children’s social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs.
  • Base our program on the needs and interests of the children.
  • Keep our program flexible, encouraging children to involve themselves in both planned and spontaneous activities.
  • Encourage learning through play, experimentation and positive role modelling.
  • Ensure all interactions with children are positive.
  • Develop a strong partnership with parents, guardians and other members of the child’s family.
  • Be a supportive service to families.

 

Long Term Objectives

Our objectives are:

SOCIAL
  • For the children to demonstrate confidence interacting with both peers and adults.
  • For the children to demonstrate associative and co-operative play as part of their play interactions.
  • For the children to develop strategies for dealing with peer conflicts.
  • For the children to defend their rights.
  • For the children to share and take turns demonstrating pro-social behaviour.
  • For the children to participate confidently in small and large group experiences.

 

EMOTIONAL
  • For the children to settle easily after separating from their primary caregiver, and remain settled throughout the day.
  • For the children to demonstrate independence throughout the day.
  • For the children to confidently deal with unfamiliar and/or peer conflict situations, seeking adult support where appropriate.
  • For the children to identify and express feelings and emotions.

 

LANGUAGE
  • For the children to recognise their own name in written form.
  • For the children to initiate and execute fluent short conversations with peers and adults.
  • For the children to use a variety of language structures including questions, statements and recall.
  • For the children to use voice levels appropriate to the environment.

FINE MOTOR
  • For the children to confidently manipulate small objects.
  • For the children to demonstrate the correct pencil and scissor grasp, using these with confidence and control.
  • For the children to demonstrate confidence writing their name.

 

GROSS MOTOR
  • For the children to jump for height and distance with their feet together.
  • For the children to develop ball skills such as throwing, kicking, catching and rolling.
  • For the children to demonstrate age appropriate co-ordination of skills such as running, hopping and balancing on one foot.
  • For the children to confidently use outdoor equipment.

  

COGNITIVE
  • For the children to label and match primary and secondary colours.
  • For the children to label and match simple shapes.
  • For the children to have a concept of numbers 1 to 10.
  • For the children to order objects according to size or simple sequence.
  • For the children to demonstrate developing confidence writing their names and drawing representational drawings.
  • For the children to label and identify letters and sounds of the alphabet.
  • For the children to use their skills in problem solving in everyday situations.
